Universal PreKindergarten (UPK) is an expansion of the state's diverse delivery system designed to address the early education needs of 3- and 4-year-old children and their families. This includes Transitional Kindergarten, which will be offered free of charge to all 4-year-olds by the 2025-2026 school year. UPK plays a crucial role in transforming California’s education system and ensuring every student in the state has a strong start.
