Yuba County Paraeducator Proficiency Assessment
The Yuba County Office of Education (YCOE) administers the Paraeducator Proficiency Assessment to support school districts in Yuba County.
If you are seeking employment as a paraeducator (teacher’s aide, instructional assistant, etc.), California Education Code 45330 requires that you meet one of the following qualifications:
- Possess an A.A. degree or higher
- Complete two years of college (48 units)
- Pass an assessment demonstrating your ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
About the Assessment
The Paraeducator Proficiency Assessment consists of four sections:
- Math
- English Language Arts
- Writing
- Ability to Assist in the Classroom
The test is multiple choice and administered on a computer. Participants must achieve a minimum score of 70% in each section to pass. If a participant does not pass one or more sections, they may retake only the sections they did not pass.
Testing Schedule & Registration
Assessments are offered on the 4th Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted on the registration form.
- First-time test takers: Allow up to three hours to complete the assessment.
- Retakes: Time may vary depending on the number of sections being retaken.
Pre-registration is required—walk-ins will not be accepted.
