Yuba County Paraeducator Proficiency Assessment

The Yuba County Office of Education (YCOE) administers the Paraeducator Proficiency Assessment to support school districts in Yuba County.

If you are seeking employment as a paraeducator (teacher’s aide, instructional assistant, etc.), California Education Code 45330 requires that you meet one of the following qualifications:

  • Possess an A.A. degree or higher
  • Complete two years of college (48 units)
  • Pass an assessment demonstrating your ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.

About the Assessment

The Paraeducator Proficiency Assessment consists of four sections:

  • Math
  • English Language Arts
  • Writing
  • Ability to Assist in the Classroom

The test is multiple choice and administered on a computer. Participants must achieve a minimum score of 70% in each section to pass. If a participant does not pass one or more sections, they may retake only the sections they did not pass.

Testing Schedule & Registration

Assessments are offered on the 4th Wednesday of each month unless otherwise noted on the registration form.

  • First-time test takers: Allow up to three hours to complete the assessment.
  • Retakes: Time may vary depending on the number of sections being retaken.
